Our client required timber sliding electric gate for a property they were renovating in Windsor. The client wanted a gate that was a little more bespoke having seen many of the same type of wooden gates locally.
As with all electric gate systems not only are security and reliability paramount, aesthetics and above all safety are very important factors that will determine the success of this project.
The challenge was to find a balance between aesthetics, functionality, reliability, and robustness and to ensure that there was a harmonisation between the entrance, the environment and the house itself.
After the tendering process, Renzland Powergates Ltd was selected from a number of gate installation companies around Surrey and Berkshire to Design, project manage and install the entire process.
Renzland Powergates Ltd consulted with the client to understand their requirements and then promptly arranged 3D CAD visualisations of the proposed entrance based on the client’s particular tastes and technical requirements. Great attention to detail given at the planning and design stage to ensure the entire process ran smoothly and translates into a stunning high end timber gate that will grace the property for many years to come.
Important details were designed into the system- such as the metal work and post-box powder coated in brown for an extra special finish. The track was re-enforced with a large “RSJ” IBeam to ensure the track does not bend over time due to the weight of the gates. The horizontal “rails” of the timber had no joints this was a large gate over 6m in length so was cut from a single piece of iroko. The gate was also designed so it appeared to be a swing gate front he front. The access control system was upgraded to vandal resistant as the entrance was located next to a secondary school it was also internet access controlled wireless meaning no internal redecoration was required. Internet Protocol entry systems (IP for short) means the client can open/close the gates from an app on his smart phone, tablet, smart TV or other internet connected device. The gates were designed so the top slid in neatly just under the pier caps- precision engineering comes as standard with all Renzland Powergates Ltd installations.
The timber gates are hand made using kiln dried Iroko- further information on our wooden gates can be found here. The timber gate was coated many times with a special oil based finish. The timber was specially chosen and was one single piece of solid wood, unlike other timber gates that are jointed from smaller sections to save money. Due to the size and weight of the gate it has to be lifted onto the track via a crane.
Most of the work was carried out over the winter which made the project particular tricky due to the cold weather conditions and continual rain which is counterproductive to building and electrical work! The brick piers were constructed from an engineered brick that is hard wearing and close as possible match to the house. The piers also had- a built in letter box, feature lighting, stone pier caps, and the gate motors had battery back up in the event of a power cut as it would not be possible to manually override the gate motor if the client was stuck outside!
Further finishing touches will be applied by our landscaping team such as granite set edging cobbles & feature lighting in the new year.
Finally the electric gate installation was commissioned; force tested to comply with BS EN 12453:2001 and handed over on time, on budget to the absolute delight of our client.
I would just like to let you know I’m loving the gate. Thank you very much for the time you have dedicated to making it so. I honestly do not think there is a detail that you haven’t catered for. Really appreciate your efforts and can only highly recommend you to anyone who is interested in getting a gate.
