The owner of a property in Godalming near Guildford, Surrey wanted completely bespoke electric driveway gates to make an impressive visual statement for visitors arriving at the entrance. The design had to fit in with existing landscape, it had to be a very high end fit and finish with no visible cables or welds, along with a state of the art integrated access control solution.
The client also needed additional landscaping so required an electric gate installation company to manage the entire construction rather than having to organise multiple contractors at the same time.
Our brief was;
- To design & build an electric gate system that will enhance the value of the property
- To design & build an electric gate system that is aesthetically pleasing and affording prestige
- To design & build a gate system that increases security to the highest professional standards
- Above all to build a Gate System with built-in safety for the clients family and all users
Renzland Powergates Ltd consulted with the client and designed and managed the entire project from initial visualisation, CAD drawings, through to handover and completion. The design of the entrance was made and agreed- this was very time consuming- multiple designs were produced until the client was happy. Trees were removed and decorative walls were built with stone to match the house which retained the earth and ensured harmonisation with the entrance and house. Piers were built by a stone mason around a RSJ (i-beam) which were filled with concrete and re-enforcement bar the brick piers also were designed with a built-in rear access letter box. The balls are actually not made of of stone, we had them molded in plastic and painted to look like stone- inside are lights that give subtle lighting to the entrance these are activated on a dusk/dawn sensor to give the gates a warm welcome home on dark evenings.
The gates were a labour of love for our metal workers- 287 individual compents were hand made for each leaf. The gates were delivered and test fit before painting, the gates were welded to the operators on site therefore these welds could also be galvanised and cleaned off so there were no visable welds after painting. For a very distinctive finish the gates were galvanised and powder coated in two tone metallic gun metal grey, along with the operators lids, control cabinet “built in” to the wall and the podium for the intercom system.
Heavy duty hydraulic underground 24v motors was selected hydraulic gate operators were chosen due the gates being very heavy, the motors are also faster, more powerful and engineered to have a longer life expectancy than electro-mechanical operators the motors were force tested and CE marked to comply with the machinery directive.
The property owner wanted a system where he could open his gates and garage door without having multiple remote controls, therefore we installed a garage door reciever on the gates so everything could be done using the same remote.
Finally a top of the range I.P access control was installed, this means the client can open the gates from anywhere using a smart device (iPhone, tablet, laptop etc) connected to the internet. The access control also has recordable HD visual and can be linked in with any other home automation system such as control 4 or crestron.
The result is a spectacular one of a kind entrance, that has received many admiring glances and positive comments. This will no doubt add far more value to the property than the cost of the gates themselves. We believe this is one of the finest gate installations in the country in terms of attention to detail, fit and finish and equipment supplied. Our clients are absolutely thrilled and have already recommended us to a number of friends.
